What we believe
If you are a Christian and looking for a church in the Portsmouth area then you might want to know something of our core beliefs and values. We recognise and respect the diversity of culture, experience and doctrinal understanding that God grants to His people, but we hope it will help you if we identify some key features which we seek to incorporate into our church life and mission.
- We believe the one true God who lives eternally in three persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the incarnation of God's eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and that in the sacrificial death of Christ and through the bodily resurrection of Christ God has provided a way of reconciling us to himself. We affirm that 'Jesus is Lord' - over our individual lives, the life of each church, and the life of the whole world.
You can follow the link to the web site of the Evangelical Alliance to find more about what we believe about God, about Jesus, and about the Holy Spirit.
As a Baptist Church we are also in Union with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and more information and resources can be found on their website.
The Bible is described as the 'Word of God' because we believe that its writers were inspired by God's Spirit. As such, it has authority to guide both what we believe and how we live our lives.
